YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM
The
Glide YouthBuild Program is a leadership and training program for 17-24 year-old youth from San Francisco’s poorest and most violent neighborhoods. The program includes onsite construction skills training, personal development and leadership skills workshops, GED preparation and the ability to earn academic credit towards a high school diploma. It places graduates in apprenticeship opportunities with building trade unions (Carpentry, Drywall, Ironwork, Cement Masons).
- 63% (19 of 30) of the 2007 Glide YouthBuild participants successfully completed the program and graduated with a high school diploma or GED.
- 52.6% (10 of 19) of the 2007 graduates are currently working in union construction jobs.
- 84.2% (16 of 19) of the 2007 graduates are employed in construction or other jobs.
- 63.1% (12 of 19) of the 2007 graduates are in union apprenticeship programs.
