Glide Community Housing (GCH)

The Mission
The mission of Glide Community House (GCH) is to break the cycles of multi-generational dependency, poverty, and low self worth by providing a spiritual home of unconditional love. Glide Community Housing strives to create a healthy community by offering effective services that foster holistic healing in an environment of cultural integrity and diversity.
History and Structure of the Organization
Glide Community Housing (GCH) was formed in 1997 to build and manage Glide’s first supportive housing building, The Cecil Williams Community House (CW House), is named after the Rev. Cecil Williams. The CW House was completed in 1999 and is one of the most innovative supportive housing communities in the nation. The CW House is a 9 story, 52 unit building which includes 22 studios, 13 one bedroom, 8 two bedroom, and 8 three bedroom apartments. Building amenities include a onsite infant day care center, on-site support services, common space for resident gatherings, a ground level courtyard and play area for children, a multi-purpose room, and a roof garden surrounded by historical glass panes of the Glide Founders, Cecil Williams, Janice Mirikitani and Glide’s history of social movement.
Michael Willis Architects designed CW House, and Cahill Construction Company was the general contractor. The building has been the recipient of numerous architectural awards. Valued at approximately $12.3 million at completion, CW House was financed with tax credits provided by Aegon USA Realty Advisors, as well as a variety of other funding sources, including the Bank of America as construction lender, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, Transamerica Realty, the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing, World Savings, the Federal Home Loan Bank, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
