Runs From June 1 – 6, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – GLIDE is pleased to announce the 15th Annual eBay Charity Auction for Power Lunch with Warren Buffett. Offered through eBay, bidding for this year’s charity auction opens Sunday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. PDT, and will close on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. PDT.

Each year, Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and philanthropist hosts just one charity power lunch to help support GLIDE’s programs. Over the past 15 years, Buffett’s sustained commitment and the philanthropic spirit of the winning bidders, have helped raised nearly $16 million to support GLIDE’s unwavering mission help San Francisco’s residents in need.

“We appreciate all of the bidders and Warren Buffett’s 15-year investment in our neighborhood and community,” said GLIDE’s Co-Founder and Minister of Liberation Reverend Cecil Williams.  "Through Mr. Buffett's dedication and the generosity of the winning bidders, we have been able to bring people together in a powerfully human way to help our neighbors in need gain control of their lives and have a fresh start."

“If you’re in the luckiest one percent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 percent,” Mr. Buffett once said.  In 2009 Mr. Buffett, along with Bill and Melinda Gates, founded The Giving Pledge – a commitment by the world's wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy.

Richelle Parham, eBay Marketplaces Chief Marketing Officer, remarked, "As a leading charitable giving platform, we believe in the power of our global commerce networks and technologies to enable our community of over 128 million to support the causes they care about most.  We are proud to be hosting this event on for the 12th consecutive year and look forward to even more impact to come as GLIDE puts the funds raised through this auction to work."

The Annual Warren Buffett Lunch Charity Auction was conceived in 2000 by the late Susie Buffett who had a strong affinity for GLIDE and its work to provide dignity and opportunity to all people, regardless of income, gender, religion, political persuasion or any other factor.  Each year, generous donors bid for the opportunity to meet Warren Buffett for lunch in New York City at Smith & Wollensky.  Over the past 15 years, the winning bids have ranged from $25,000 to $3,456,789, with the funds going to support GLIDE’s programs, which help people overcome hunger, poverty, homelessness and debilitating health challenges.

With unconditional support and love for each person who comes through their doors, GLIDE serves over 850,000 meals each year; operates supportive housing; provides a nationally-recognized professional community health clinic; offers an educational and productive urban rooftop garden; and offers dozens of service programs that invest in people’s ability to break the cycle of poverty.
