Event Description


For over five decades, Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani have spoken out, worked and struggled against hate, exploitation, violence and dehumanization. Together, they have and will continue to lead us to walk that walk, talk that talk, move that move, be that be, touch that touch, see that see, hear that hear, struggle that struggle, fight that fight and love that love.


We honor the young African American minister from San Angelo, Texas and the Japanese-American grad student from Stockton, California who walked through GLIDE’s doors in the 1960s with an energetic and passionate commitment to love and serve the people - the poorest and most vulnerable among us. For over 50 years, this dynamic union has inspired the walk of a lifetime to engage people to be fully human.  Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani have spirited a movement and championed humanity, equality and justice for all. Janice and Cecil have taught us to believe in ourselves, tie our beliefs to our highest ideals, and imagine that together, as the beloved community, we go beyond the possible and do extraordinary things. Walk That Walk inspires the change within ourselves that we want to see in this world.


We proudly invite you to join us at WALK THAT WALK, the GLIDE Annual Holiday Jam on November 30, 2016 at the Masonic. Featuring an all-star lineup of performances by musician/filmmaker/humanitarian Michael Franti–long known for his globally conscious lyrics, powerful performances, and dynamic live shows; drummer/percussionist Sheila E., R&B artist Goapele, jazz and cabaret singer Paula West, The Doobie Brothers’ founder/lead singer Tom Johnston and bassist John Cowan joined by vocalist Lara Johnston, Urban Jazz Dance Company’s Antoine Hunter, a special performance from The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, the world-renowned GLIDE Ensemble and The Change Band, along with Mistress of Ceremonies Renel Brooks-Moon. Pre-concert  and intermission reception with hors d’oeuvres and libations from some of the Bay Area’s finest restaurants and beverage companies will be provided.
