Candlight Vigil for Starr Lamare tomorrow @ 6pm

CANDLELIGHT-VIGIL1
GLIDE is partnering with the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium (DVC) to host a candlelight vigil in honor of Starr Lamare, the 25-year-old mother of three who family members say was set on fire by her boyfriend, Dexter Oliver, this past Sunday in the city’s Bayview neighborhood. This senseless attack reminds San Franciscans that much remains to be done to protect against and remedy incidents of violence against women in our communities and in our city.
“We must stand together to create safety in our homes, in our relationships, in our families.  There’s an African Proverb: ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ Well, it’s going to take a village to end domestic violence in our communities.  So please join us in healing as a community.” – Zwazzi Sowö, Glide’s Women’s Center’s Program Manager
You are invited to stand with GLIDE and the DVC in support of Ms. Lamare at a candlelight vigil for an evening of healing and reflection. We will gather as a community beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9th at, 900 Hyde Street between Bush & Pine front in  of St. Francis Hospital, where Ms. Lamare is currently recovering from her severe injuries.
Domestic violence advocates urge anyone facing violence in their relationships to contact the DVC, whose member organizations provide a range of supportive services for domestic violence survivors.  Nearly one-third of women in the United States report being physically or sexually abused by an intimate partner at some point in their lives.
