DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 8th\, Glide Memorial Church will celebrateÂ
  Jazz and Justice SundayÂ with Special GuestÂ John Santos.Â Â Far more t
 han a master percussionist\, internationally renowned\, multi-Grammy-nom
 inated John Santos is a prolific Afro-Latin bandleader\, composer\, teac
 her\, writer\, producer\, and cultural activist. A 2012 San Francisco La
 tino Heritage Arts Awardee\, heâ€™s been at the center of the Bay Areaâ€
 ™s music scene for 50 years. He has worked with acknowledged masters inc
 luding Cachao\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Tito Puente\, Bebo ValdĂ©s\, Max Roach
 \, Eddie Palmieri\, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Omar Sosa. He has produced a
  steady stream of critically-acclaimed\, peer-respected recordings on hi
 s Machete Records label since 1984 and has travelled the world as a teac
 her and lecturer since the mid-eighties. He served on the Smithsonian In
 stitutionâ€™s Latin Jazz Advisory Committee and is a Board member of Oak
 town Jazz (Oakland\, CA)\, Living Jazz (Oakland\, CA)\, and the Afro-Lat
 in Jazz Alliance (NY). He was a Resident Artistic Director (2013 &amp\; 
 2014) and also a Trustee (2017-2023) of SFJAZZ. He has taught at Jazz Ca
 mp West since 1986. November 12th\, 2006 was proclaimed John Santos Day 
 in San Francisco by Mayoral proclamation. The documentary film Santos: S
 kin to Skin\, about his life and career premiered in 2022. His 2020 CD\,
  Art of the Descarga\, by The John Santos Sextet\, is on the prestigious
  Smithsonian/Folkways label. Their 2023 CD release\, FilosofĂ­a CaribeĂ±
 a Vol.3 is dedicated to Puerto Rico and their newest CD\, Vieja Escuela\
 , will be released in January on Johnâ€™s Machete Records label which he
  founded in 1984. Bassist Saul Sierra and pianist/trumpet player Marco D
 Ă­az are dynamic instrumentalists\, composers and arrangers and are inte
