"For all that has been, thanks."
by Dr. Karen Oliveto, Pastor
Every New Year’s Eve finds me pondering this quote from former UN secretary general Dag Hammerskold:
For all that has been, thanks. For all that will be, yes.
This phrase is perfect for reflecting on the past year and preparing for the next. It helps me live with a sense of gratitude and expectation. Gratitude and expectation keep my heart and hands open so that I can live into the mystery and beauty of life that God offers me at every moment.
What are you grateful for in the past year? Where did you experience unexpected compassion, love, blessings? Who touched your life with gentleness and care? When did you find yourself breathless in the face of beauty?
For all that has been, thanks!
In this coming year, may you live expectantly, with an openness to others, to the goodness that is offered to you every day. And may we all help make peace, justice, and joy a reality throughout the world.
For all that will be, yes!
