GLIDE TO HAND OUT 5,000 FREE BAGS OF GROCERIES
TO PEOPLE IN NEED FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16

Donations, Volunteers and Turkeys Still Needed for  GLIDE’s Holiday Celebrations and Events

WHAT:   
GLIDE will give away 5,000 bags full of groceries to individuals and families this year.  Each bag contains fresh poultry, potatoes, bread, pasta, pasta sauce, rice, beans, and vegetables.

“Here at GLIDE we believe that no one should go hungry,” said Reverend Cecil Williams, GLIDE’s Founder and Minister of Liberation.  Whether it’s handing out a free bag of groceries at the holidays or serving three free hot meals every day of the year, we are doing all we can to help fight hunger in the Bay Area.”

Contributing partners for this year’s Grocery Bag Giveaway include Gap Inc. and Central Payment who will provide monetary contributions as well as a host of volunteers to help fill and hand out grocery bags throughout the morning and afternoon.

UPCOMING ADDITIONAL HOLIDAY SHARING EVENTS AT GLIDE:

December 17 – Sikh Blanket Giveaway
Each year, the Bay Area’s Sikh community collects hundreds of new blankets to give away at GLIDE. This uniquely Bay Area event demonstrates the diversity and generosity of our community, while providing a very basic need for poor and homeless people. Nearly 500 blankets have been collected and will be distributed to some of Glide’s neediest clients

(Media, please note: This is an event for GLIDE’s Free Meals Program participants and is not open to the general public).

December 19 – Old Navy Kids Shopping Spree (8:30am – 10:30am at Old Navy, 801 Market Street at 4th)
Old Navy flagship store on Market Street will open its doors at 8:30 a.m. for a private shopping spree for more than 200 kids from GLIDE 's Family Services programs, ages 4 – 12.  Thanks to the support from Gap Inc., each child will receive gift cards valued at $100 and will have the store to themselves, along with 150 Gap Inc. volunteer “personal shoppers.”  (Media, please note: This is a private event for children from GLIDE’s Family Services Programs and is not open to the general public).
December 20 – Toy Giveaway (9am – 11am)
One of the great joys of the holidays is seeing a child’s face light up when they receive a brand new toy. This year, GLIDE will hand out thousands of free toys to children in need. Donate money, gift cards or unwrapped new toys to GLIDE at 330 Ellis Street (at Taylor).  Charles Schwab and Co., Inc. is a contributing partner to this year’s Toy Giveaway.

December 24 – Prime Rib Luncheon  (11am - 2pm)
Sponsored each year by Joe Betz and San Francisco’s House of Prime Rib who donate 2,000 pounds of prime rib for GLIDE’s special mouthwatering FREE Christmas Eve luncheon.

December 24 – Christmas Dinner Prep (2:30pm to 4:00pm)
Volunteers will gather to chop, dice, mix and slice to prepare thousands of Christmas dinners for the poor and homeless.

December 25 – Christmas Celebrations and Dinner
Celebrations at 9am and 11am
Breakfast - 7am - 8:30am
Dinner – 9am to 2pm
Come celebrate Christmas at GLIDE’s lively annual celebration, followed by dinner for thousands of homeless and needy families and individuals.

December 30 – Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Players Volunteer For GLIDE’s Free Meals Program

UCLA football players from the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl will volunteer by serving the poor and marginalized during GLIDE’s free lunch service on Friday, December 30 from 11:30am to 1:30pm.

Request for Donations
GLIDE is also making an appeal for donations of money, new and unwrapped toys, and food--especially turkeys and canned goods. To donate money, please send your check to GLIDE Foundation, 330 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94102, or donate through GLIDE’s website at www. GLIDE.org. Please drop off all food and toy donations at GLIDE’s main entrance, 330 Ellis Street.
