THE HOLIDAY SEASON AT GLIDE...POWERED BY LOVE

GLIDE Announces 2012 Holiday Celebrations and Events
Donations, Volunteers, Turkeys and Toys are Always Needed

SAN FRANCISCO – Whether powered by donations, or powered by volunteers, the holiday season at GLIDE is always powered by love. This holiday season will be no different when GLIDE continues to meet the needs of thousands who struggle in the margins of society. GLIDE will help thousands by providing free special holiday meals and handing out free grocery bags, toys and blankets to those in need.  To support this colossal effort and ensure that no one gets turned away, GLIDE is recruiting hundreds of volunteers and accepting donations of money, toys and food – especially turkeys.

As people continue to find themselves out of work, without a home or just have difficulty making ends meet, the need for GLIDE’s social services continues to increase. GLIDE remains committed to serving nearly a million free meals each year to the poor and providing essentials like healthcare, access to shelter and other basic needs.  Over the next two months, GLIDE will pass out 5,000 bags of groceries to needy families, thousands of free toys, and serve up tens of thousands of meals.

“Powered by love, GLIDE continues to provide food, shelter, healthcare and other basic resources day after day, week after week and year after year to those that need it most,” said Reverend Cecil Williams, GLIDE’s Founder and Minister of Liberation.

“The holiday season at GLIDE is a special time for the community to come together and help our fellow man,” said Janice Mirikitani, Founding President of the GLIDE Foundation. “Whether you help out by volunteering your time or donating money or food, there are many ways to feel a sense of pride and fulfillment by lending a hand at GLIDE.”

Volunteer sign-ups for Thanksgiving, Christmas and all holiday events are online at www.GLIDE.org. Sign up early to guarantee a spot. Monetary donations at this time of year are especially welcome and can also be processed online or sent to GLIDE (330 Ellis Street, San Francisco). GLIDE is urgently in need of donations of new, unwrapped toys and nonperishable foods and turkeys, which can be dropped off at GLIDE.
