The world is colorful!
by Enrique lütke Zutelgte, Walk-In Center Case Manager
As Case Managers in GLIDE’s Walk-In Center, each and every day we see a lot of different kinds of people. Gay people, transgender people, bisexual people, and yes! even straight people. These people are of many different ethnicities. A former co-worker said to me many times, “The world is colorful.” Everybody is individual. One guy drops in singing, the next person is crying, others are laughing. No matter what the differences, everybody is treated equally and the most important rule for clients and staff is reciprocal respect.
Diversity can bring friction, which from the professional perspective can be very challenging. On the other hand, diversity is also exciting, inspiring, and offers opportunities: opportunities to learn from each other and to build a vibrant, thriving, and strong community. As a social worker and as an individual, I love these wonderful opportunities at GLIDE!
