Westfield State is GLIDE!

by Ryan Meersman, Student Volunteer
A little over a month ago, a group of 17 from Westfield State University, a Massachusetts state university, were welcomed into GLIDE’s doors for Sunday Celebration.  Tears flowed, bodies moved and danced, voices sang, and our minds were also moved towards thinking about love, justice, and change.  It was only fitting that we would spend our service learning component of our two week San Francisco winter course with you all in the meals program, where we were all so moved and so grateful to work alongside so many wonderful and loving people.
Westfield State University was founded by the father of American education, Horace Mann, as the first public, coeducational school without barrier to race, gender, or economic class in 1838.  Since then, our University has committed itself to being a high quality, affordable institution that has turned out an alumni community that reaches all corners of the world, doing amazing things for people whether through public service or private business.
We cannot thank GLIDE enough for welcoming us so willingly to the community. While you see thousands of volunteers filter through your doors every year, you made us feel like we were the only ones.  You provided us with an experience that will stick with us for the rest of our lives.  And through your small acts of kindness; a token of thanks here, a expression of gratitude there, and even more a smile to top it all off has made us want to come back again and again long after we complete our education at Westfield. At our second Sunday Celebration we felt like we had been in the GLIDE community for years…and so we thank you.
