Press Conference & Public Comment: End Racially Biased Traffic Stops in San Francisco!

May 11, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm PDT

Dear Community Partners,

We are excited to share that finally, after nine months of organizing and advocacy, the San Francisco Police Commission will discuss ending racially-based traffic stops on Wednesday, May 11, at 5:30 PM.

Earlier that day, on Wednesday, May 11, we will hold a virtual press conference from 11:00 AM to noon to share more about this campaign and hear from supporting community leaders.

These are exciting developments in our campaign to end racially biased traffic stops in San Francisco. We refer to these as pretext stops. Pretext stops disproportionately impact communities of color, can lead to the use of force by police, and have already been banned in other jurisdictions.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Attend the virtual press conference and give public comment on the evening of Wednesday, May 11 — sign up here. To help with your public comment, talking points, call-in information, and a social media toolkit are here.

  2. The Coalition to End Biased Stops will be submitting our updated recommendations before the hearing, and we are requesting that organizations take a stand and join us in this effort. An associated fact sheet is attached. Can you sign our letter?

  3. Share this email with your allies, coalition partners, and organizations. To ensure we are able to get an effective policy passed by the Police Commission, we need as much broad community support as possible.

  4. For additional information contact Wes Saver at wsaver@glide.org

Thank you for taking action!

Sincerely,

Wes
