Towards Justice: MLK Playlist 2022

Hello Racial Justice Warriors!

On Monday, January 17, 2022, communities all across the country will be celebrating the 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. A federal holiday that began as a commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday is now a day dedicated to encouraging and empowering Americans to participate in community service. Dr. King’s steadfast commitment to service has inspired people all around the United States and the world to work together to make positive change. As John Lewis stated, “observe this as a Day On, rather than a Day Off!”.

Many cities have unfortunately had to cancel or postpone planned activities and celebrations due to the Omicron COVID surge. I have, however, sourced events that will allow you to participate in both virtual and socially distanced local events on Monday. There are also other opportunities that extend beyond the Day of Service, which is in keeping with Glide’s ongoing commitment to social justice and civic engagement.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU’RE UP TO: Whatever you decide to do during this time, please let us know how your family participated by uploading your service photos, King quotes or other documentation with the hashtag #GlideSF or #GlideRacialJustice.

As John Lewis stated,  “observe this as a Day On, rather than a Day Off!”.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is dear to Glide Memorial Church, a community founded on the pillars of resilience, unconditional love, social justice and celebration. We’ve compiled this MLK playlist to help usher in the spirit of our great freedom fighting father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We look forward to connecting with you as we continue to strive towards justice and collective action!

Enjoy this MLK 2022 Playlist!

Sincerely,

Paula Farmer, Racial Justice Group Facilitator
