What You’ll Learn
GLIDE’s journey to Ghana is an expansion of our long-standing justice pilgrimages to Alabama and the American South. While Alabama helps us understand the Civil Rights Movement and the ongoing legacy of racial injustice in the United States, Ghana offers an opportunity to engage with an earlier chapter of this shared history: the transatlantic slave trade and its enduring global impact.
Where You’ll Go and Why
Through visits to sites connected to the slave trade, conversations with local historians and community leaders, and opportunities for reflection and dialogue, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how the forced displacement of African people shaped modern economic, political, and social realities across the world. Places we will visit include:
– Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum to learn about Ghana’s independence leader and 1st President
– W.E.B. Du Bois Centre for Pan Africanism to better understand the connection between Black Americans and Africans
– Ashanti Kingdom where Adinkra symbols and Kente cloth originated
– Akwasidae Festival, a sacred festival that occurs only every 6 weeks to honour ancestors and the Ashanti King
– Assin Manso Slave river and Cape Coast Dungeons

Trip Date: February 10-18, 2027
Important Notice: The trip is not refundable or transferable, so please be settled in your plans before purchasing.
Price: The total cost of the trip is $8,000 per person. For couples or shared occupancy, the total cost for two people is $14,000 (only $7,000 per person). Hotel is included in the cost. At this price point, you are helping to sponsor a member of our community to attend the pilgrimage who otherwise could not afford it.
Airfare: Airfare is not included in the trip price. Participants are responsible for arranging and purchasing their own flights. Please arrive no later than 2:00pm, we will have an orientation and group dinner in the early evening.
Maximum Participants: Participation is limited to a maximum of 30 individuals and spaces will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.
