Sunday Streets is back! Join GLIDE for a street festival with activities for the whole family

Phoenix Day flier 2025

WHAT:  GLIDE is hosting the 5th Annual  Phoenix Day, Tenderloin’s iteration of Sunday Streets: a joyous family-friendly street festival.  Families will be able to enjoy a carnival-style day with free food, games, and activities. Music, dancing, Double Dutch, basketball, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, toddler cars, Exploratorium activities, and free ethnically diverse dolls from  Dollhouse Day are among the delights in store.  For job-seekers, we will have job recruitment and on-site interviewing.

The festival will feature a dunk tank: Supervisor Bilal Mahmood will be among the people being dunked. Our rotating live stage will have performances from the GLIDE Ensemble, Glidettes, a DJ dance party, and remarks from both Supervisor Mahmood and GLIDE President & CEO  Dr. Gina Fromer.

WHEN:  Sunday, October 19th 11am-3pm

WHERE: Outside Glide Memorial Church, 330 Ellis Street, San Francisco

WHO:  Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, Dr. Gina Fromer, community leaders, the GLIDE Ensemble, the Glidettes.

WHY:  Phoenix Day embodies GLIDE’s core value of Celebration—a reminder that unconditional love doesn’t stop at meals, healthcare, or housing. It also means affirming every person’s right to joy. Tenderloin has more children than any other neighborhood in the city, and those children deserve to have a family-friendly festival in their own neighorhood.  The name Phoenix Day reflects the resilience of the Tenderloin community.

BACKGROUND:  This event was organized with help from Livable City, and made possible by the generosity of the Zellerbach Family Foundation and the Svane Family Foundation, along with countless community partners and volunteers. Phoenix Day originally began to foster healing and unity in the aftermath of the pandemic, and continues to be a way for San Franciscans to celebrate life, laughter, and love in the heart of the Tenderloin.
