A New “Hearts in San Francisco” Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony at GLIDE

The San Francisco General Hospital Foundation chose GLIDE for its next 400-lb heart sculpture; painted by a local artist, it honors GLIDE’s mission of unconditional love

WHAT:  GLIDE was selected to receive a heart sculpture from the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation in recognition of the deeply loving work it does in partnership with the community. At the unveiling ceremony for the 400-lb heart, a variety of speakers will celebrate the beautification of the Tenderloin and the revitalization of downtown.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 30th 10:30am-11:30am

WHERE: GLIDE, 330 Ellis Street, San Francisco, on the sidewalk outside the Ellis St entrance

WHO:  Hear from Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, San Francisco General Hospital Foundation CEO Kim Meredith, GLIDE President & CEO Dr. Gina Fromer, and enjoy beautiful music from GLIDE’s Director of Music Ministries Zoë Ellis and team.

WHY:  The heart represents GLIDE’s unconditional love for the city, as expressed through our programs and services: it is a happy coincidence the statue is the same shape as GLIDE’s heart logo.  We will now have a landmark visual reminder (painted in an array of joyous colors by local artist Jaz Cameron) of the love GLIDE staff and church members spread throughout the city.  We hope the unveiling of the heart will kick off a new era for the Tenderloin: one of appreciation for this gorgeous, diverse, activism-oriented, and historic neighborhood.

BACKGROUND:   Hearts in San Francisco is a world-renowned public art project that raises critical support for our city’s only public hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). Each year, the Foundation commissions one-of-a-kind heart sculptures created by local artists. After the sculptures are displayed in San Francisco for the public to enjoy, each is auctioned in support of ZSFG. For over 20 years, these sculptures have become a symbol of San Francisco’s support for the innovative, compassionate care provided to over 100,000 of our neighbors each year.
