POWERED BY HOPE
GLIDE’s Annual Holiday Jam Benefit Returns on
Thursday, November 17 to the Masonic in San Francisco

San Francisco – GLIDE is proud to announce the GLIDE Annual Holiday Jam:
Powered by Hope, a live, in-person and online benefit on Thursday, November 17
at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco. The 2022 GLIDE Holiday Jam promises
a special evening bringing the community together for music, storytelling and celebration
to support GLIDE’s mission. Musical guests include The Family Stone with founding
member Jerry Martini, from the first family of funk, Grammy Hall of Fame legendary
group Sly and The Family Stone, the renowned and uplifting GLIDE Ensemble and
Change Band under the direction of Vernon Bush. Additional musical entertainment
will be announced closer to the event.

“GLIDE is excited to gather in community as we celebrate another year of building on
our legacy of addressing poverty, homelessness and racial and social inequities,” said
GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan. “The evening will have all the hallmarks
of a GLIDE Holiday Jam event – full of incredible soulful music, hope, and
unconditional love – while also highlighting the expanding life-saving and
systems-changing services that GLIDE provides for the community.”

The past year saw continued setbacks for individuals and families who are among
the most marginalized in San Francisco, as the COVID crisis and crippling inflation
exacerbated economic, health, and racial disparities. Throughout the many challenges,
GLIDE has remained a beacon of hope for all in San Francisco. And, Powered by Hope,
the 2022 GLIDE Holiday Jam theme encompasses the spirit of GLIDE’s ongoing
commitment to serving the most vulnerable in our city. Powered by Hope also embodies
GLIDE’s commitment to extend its reach citywide to address increasing need.

Each year, the GLIDE Annual Holiday Jam raises funds for GLIDE’s comprehensive
services that provide opportunities to help more people off the streets and support policy
reform and advocacy efforts to disrupt cycles of intergenerational poverty to realize a more
just and equitable city. Funds from the 2022 Holiday Jam will support GLIDE’s expanding
services, which include enhanced mobile teams, pop-up integrated service hubs, and
community-based partnerships to help thousands in crisis move toward stability and
thrive for good.

Tickets will be made available October 1, 2022 and are $75 for the in-person performance
and include complimentary refreshments and snacks. For tickets, and more information,
including how to join our generous sponsors, with opportunities starting at $350, please

WHO:
The Family Stone
The Family Stone, born out of Sly and the Family Stone, brings the raw, unfiltered
original sound that became part of the essential building blocks of many great modern
artists’ toolkits, including Prince, Michael Jackson, John Legend, Missy Elliott, Aretha
Franklin, and many more. As a worldwide phenomenon, the group is best known for its
legendary anthems like “Family Affair,” “Everyday People,” “Dance to the Music,” among
others, and their album, “STAND” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and
declared a National Treasure in The United States Library of Congress. Rock & Roll Hall
of Fame inductee, R & B Pioneer Award winner, and original founding member of Sly & The
Family Stone, Jerry Martini, along with Phunne Stone (the multi-talented daughter of Sly
Stone and the late, great Cynthia Robinson), Swang Stewart, Jimi McKinney, Frank Klepacki,
Nate Wingfield, and Blaise Sison bring the music of the first interracial, main-stream major
band in Rock & Roll history to the dynamic sound of The Family Stone band.

The GLIDE Ensemble and the Change Band
From its humble beginnings on Christmas Day, 1966, when it was only 10 singers and
jazz legend John Handy, the GLIDE Ensemble and Change Band has grown to include
more than 100 voices and eight musicians. Beginning with the first choir director, Faith
Winthrop, the GLIDE Ensemble and Change Band has benefitted from the direction of
such talented leaders as Donnell Hickman, Ronald Sutherland, John F. Turk, Jr., Clifford
Coulter, and Vernon Bush, and has teamed up with a host of notable musicians such as
Sammy Davis Jr., Leonard Bernstein, Marvin Gaye, Bono, Bobby McFerrin, Maya Angelou,
and Joan Baez.
