
Glide Memorial Church is excited to announce the 2025 Janice Mirikitani Poet Theologian in Residence. This unique opportunity invites a poet and theologian to engage with our vibrant community through creative expression, spiritual exploration, and mutual growth.
Residency Details:
– Compensation: The residency provides $7,000, distributed in twelve monthly payments of $1,000, commencing on December 1, 2025, and concluding with a Culmination Event in June 2026.
– Support and Engagement:The Poet Theologian in Residence will receive creative support, collegiality, and prayer, including regular meetings with the Minister of Celebration and the Coordinator of Arts and Liturgies Ministries for collaborative planning and theopoetic engagements.
Responsibilities:
The Poet Theologian in Residence will:
– Facilitate one post-Celebration Workship session monthly, focusing on poetry, creative writing, and artistic worship.
– Deliver a minimum of four Poet Theologian Quarterly Readings during Sunday Celebrations at 9 am and 11 am.
– Coordinate and curate two poetry readings (onsite, online, or offsite) and publish creative works that honor the spirit and legacy of Janice Mirikitani.
– Lead storytelling and poetry programming at the Janice Mirikitani Family Youth Community Center (FYCC).
– Co-coordinate the relaunch of the redesigned Maya Angelou Room.
– Help coordinate and curate quarterly Sunday Writers Church sessions, including prompts, journals, and poetry collections.
– Curate one Poetry-Visual Arts-Graphic exhibit in the GlideCreative Space, showcasing writing generated during Workships.
– Actively participate in the spiritual and creative life of the congregation, engaging in arts and worship planning, and contributing to various programs and events.
– Foster relationships with congregation members, community literary artists, poets, and Marvin K. White throughout the fellowship year.
– Collaborate with the CLCE to create connections between Glide Memorial Church and other literary artists, organizations, and institutions.
Term of Residency:
The Poet Theologian in Residence term will run from December 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
