My name is Vincent Smith. I’m 61. I’ve been coming to GLIDE since 1993. I’m originally from Richmond, Virgina. My 12-year-old daughter was killed by a drunk driver. I knew the person who did it, but did not want to take any action for fear of any repercussions. Frankly, I was just too scared to go back home. So, I moved to California.
GLIDE advocated for the Hunger Action Day Policy Agenda, which includes protecting and increasing CalFresh benefits in the face of federal threats, protecting the Market Match program that supports CalFresh recipients and farmers’ markets, increasing access to food for children and families during the summer, and so much more!
We are delighted to welcome three outstanding new members to GLIDE’s Board of Trustees, each bringing a wealth of expertise and leadership from the fields of marketing, non-profit, consulting, technology, and family advocacy.
I also was able to participate in parenting classes and workshops at GLIDE, including a presentation put on by Kid Power International. I later participated in a violence intervention program led by GLIDE’s Women’s Center Program Manager, Ileana Montano.
On December 5, GLIDE teamed up with Old Navy to treat 65 kids from FYCC and FRC to a holiday shopping spree.
It’s not just about one meal, either. People who come to us during the holidays form a relationship with GLIDE.
