We are pleased to announce that GLIDE and the California-Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (CNAC) have reached a successful agreement that will allow GLIDE and CNAC to move forward as wholly separate and autonomous organizations.

Our Ministers

GLIDE's Minister of Celebration, Poet, Writer, Preacher, Public Theologian, Visual Artist and Arts Organizer

Marvin K. White, MDiv, is GLIDE's Minister of Celebration. He is a graduate of the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley and the inaugural Public Theologian in Residence (2017–18) at First Church Berkeley. He is the author of four collections of poetry and is a public theologian and community-based artist. He is articulating a vision of social, prophetic and creative justice through his work as a poet, artist, teacher, facilitator, activist, community organizer, preacher, homemaker, cake baker, and Facebook Statistician.

MARVIN K. WHITE

GLIDE's Minister of Compassionate Care, O.G. Rev, Social Activist, Author and Urban Minister

Reverend Harry Louis Williams, II was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He holds a Bachelor of Art degree from Kean University, Union, NJ. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, now Palmer Theological Seminary, St. David’s, Pennsylvania. He is the author of six books. In 2015, he was awarded a proclamation from the City of Oakland for his work in quelling street-level conflict. Harry first began serving the Tenderloin community in 2005 through the GLIDE Health Clinic. Since then he has served here in many roles. For the past eight years, Harry has lead the People's Bible Study at GLIDE, which meets on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm.
